Surely Ghanshyam Das Birla is basically known as the pioneer big player of the Indian business world but it is also important to know about other aspects of his multifacted  character. The aim of this book is to present a holistic picture of this historic person. The struggles of his ancestors who belonged to the Sikar, a desert district of Rajasthan and the achievements of his contemporary relatives are also given their due mention.

Ghanshyam Das Birla never showed interest in penning down his own biography inspite of the several requests made by others. He considered it an act of self- praise and advertising oneself. However he admitted Gandhiji’s autobiography ‘ My Experiments With Truth’ did not fall in that category. But being so frankly truthful was something only Mahatma Gandhi could dare to do and not everyone.

But before preparing a book on the life and times of a person, the pertinent question arises about the object of the exercise. In this regard  I would say that Ghanshyam Das Birla had contributed a lot towards the shaping up of the modern India. His activities in a span of sixty years provide enough proof to establish the fact that he had created a niche for himself in 20th century history of India.
