JAYADEVA'S GEET GOVINDAM
Jayadeva Lived in Bengal some centuries ago. He was a great devotee of Lord Krishna. His songs in praise of the Lord are cited even today for their elequent grace and rhythm. The Geet-Govindam translates literally into 'The Song of Govinda'. Govinda is another name for Krishna, Radha, the gopi queen, catches Krishna in the amorous embrace of another belle. She is hurt, angered. When Krishna comes to beg forgiveness, she chastises him with bitter words. Yet she is miserable when he leaves in defection. How he comes back and seeks her grace on bent knees is the subject of this intensely sweet love peom.
